About Main South Speaks

We have found that someone else is speaking for the people of Main South. Without the power of voice they lack the power to make the changes in their community they want.

Purpose: Main South Speaks is committed to empowering the people, especially the youth, of Main South, Worcester with the skills and techniques to understand and represent their neighborhood. Through photography, video, cultural events and more, Main South Speaks works to help people Speak For Themselves!

History: In 2005, Main South Speaks was started by investigator Timothy Dzurilla who was interested in the representation of the Main South community both on and off line.

A distinct gap was found between the people creating the news and representations of the area and the people living there.

For each school semester since, a brigade of local high school students and Clark University students have worked together examining different topics such as local food and restaurants, street art, and the issue of trash in the streets.

We are moving forward by cooperating with the new Boys and Girls Club to further our reach and connections with the community.

We appreciate everyone’s continued support and interest. Please speak to us by emailing or commenting your questions, comments, and ideas.

Thanks,

The Main South Speaks Crew
